Open Text Capture File" menu opens a capture-file for received symbols. Then new received symbols are being written into that file. If the file exist, new symbols are appended to it.The "File > Close Text Capture File" command closes a capture-file. Capture-file state is shown in the status line. The hotkey for capture on/off commands is Alt-L.If the "Setup > Text > Put time marks to a capture File" option is selected, time marks are placed to this file with interval about one minute. If the "Setup > Text > Use UTC Time" option is selected, UTC time is used in these marks, in another case local time is used. The "File > Open Wave Capture File" command opens wave-file to save all received from soundcard sound. File is closed by the "File > Close Wave Capture File" command. The hotkey for these commands is Alt-V. Take to attention that a minute of sound recording need above 1 MByte disk space. The "Filters > Main Filter" menu selects signal filter bandwidth. Wider filter bandwidth is appropriate for more speed keying. There are two sets of FIR and IIR filters. FIR filters work slightly better then IIR filters usually, but FIR filters need much more processor time. So you can prefer IIR filters in case of not very fast computer. The "Filters > Burst Filter" menu selects the burst filter maximal speed. The burst filter is a filter against short noise bursts. When program is detected signal presence, signal length is compares with a threshold. When signal is shorter then a threshold, it is ignored. Burst filter with "100 LPM" setup means that a threshold is about one half of "dot" length at 100 LPM (20 WPM).You can use CwGet as narrow-band sound DSP-filter also. So CwGet can help you to decode Morse code "by ears". The bandwidth of a sound filter is selected by the "Filters > Sound Output" menu. A soundcard used for this DSP-filter output is defined by "Setup > Interface > Output soundcard number" menu. If your sound card supports a full-duplex mode, the same card can be used for sound input and output simultaneously. The "Ctrl-F" hotkey is used to switch sound on and off.CwGet can decode signals from sound file (WAVE-file) also. A desired file is selected by the "File > Decode From File" command. WAVE-file must be Windows PCM file, without compression. Preferred file parameters are mono, 16 bit, 11025 Hz.CwGet has one minute sound buffer. "Replay" and "Save" buttons are used to control this buffer. The "Replay" button click makes CwType to replay previous 10 seconds of received signal. The "Save" button writes previous 60 seconds of a sound to a wave file in the "Waves" directory. This waveSound Toys Filter Freak - Sound On Sound
When singing or talking into a microphone and you hear plosive noises like “B” and “P,” by all means, you need to get a sound filter to lessen those problematic sounds. Your options are pop filter vs. windscreen. The choice between a pop filter and cheap foam that fits a metal screen is entirely up to whether you will do your recording outdoors or indoors. Outdoors, the wind is the issue. Indoors, it is preferable to use a pop filter because it reduces high frequencies to a lesser amount.Have you seen your favorite singers recording their vocals in a studio? Did you notice a black and circular device standing in between them and the microphone? That thing is called a pop filter, and it is made of thin metal or nylon mesh. It is installed onto the microphone stand through a metal mount. When you sing or record your voice, you stand a few inches away from this filter. The job of a filter is to eliminate annoying pops in sound recording. Those annoying pops are called plosives. Plosives are blasts of air coming from the singer’s mouth when producing explosive sounds, such as Ts, Bs, and Ps.A microphone with a pop filter in a music studio. These sounds generate air blasts that directly hit the microphone, causing it to carry too much load and produce unpleasant sounds. While it is not necessary to use such a filter each time you perform in front of an audience, it is required that you use it every time you record vocals. What Is a Microphone Windscreen? When you use a microphone outdoors, it is exposed to the elements, especially air. If a blast of air hits, it breaks up against the edges in the inlet and air vortices inside. It also produces a howling sound. Thus, microphones used outdoors need foam or fur cover called windscreen. The covering material breaks the air before it reaches the microphone. In the studio, microphone covers are used because singers produce explosive consonant sounds described above. Therefore, without microphone protection or shield, quality live sound or sound recording is next to impossible. Plosives bombard the ears of the listeners with hurting sounds. The materials in windscreens – such as foam, wire gauze, or fabric – form significant acoustic impedance. Low particle-velocity changes that create sound waves can traverse with minimum attenuation. On the other hand, the cover impedes high particle-velocity air to a sizeable extent.Wind Screen Foam filter in a condenser mic.Manufacturers carefully consider the thickness of the material. Increasing the thickness of the material means better wind attenuation. However, too much thickness may compromise the quality of audio with high frequency. All windscreens and pop filters affect sound quality. Foam filters, however, are poor at keeping quality sound and reducing pops. Mesh filters affect the sound though not that much.Expert Tip: If you use a windscreen, you can recognize a difference if you place it between you and the microphone. The difference is subtle, but you can feel it is there. However, it may not be. A command to convert every selected Sound object into a filtered sound. The filtering is done in the frequency domain. And notch filters, which allow you to sculpt the frequency spectrum to your liking. Each filter type has its own unique characteristics and can be customized further with adjustable parameters like cutoff frequency, resonance, and filter slope. One of the standout features in Serum is its ability to add distortion and drive to the filters. This allows for the creation of edgier and more aggressive sounds by adding harmonics and saturation to the filtered signal. The built-in filter drive controls and distortion options empower users to push their sounds to the limit, adding a gritty and distinctive edge to the sound.Another noteworthy aspect of Serum’s filter section is its modulation capabilities. Users have the option to modulate various filter parameters using envelopes, LFOs, and other modulation sources. This modulation flexibility allows for dynamic and evolving filter effects, opening up possibilities for creating expressive and animated sounds.Additionally, Serum’s filter section offers advanced features like filter routing and parallel processing. Users can route multiple oscillators or noise sources into separate filter chains, allowing for complex and layered sound design. The parallel filter processing feature enables users to blend multiple filter types and adjust their individual mix levels, resulting in interesting and unique sonic textures. Moreover, Serum includes a variety of filter modes, including standard, dual, and serial modes. These modes provide different options for combining and processing filter stages, giving users even more creative control over their sound design.Overall, the filter section in Serum is a powerful and versatile tool for sculpting and manipulating the sonic characteristics of your sounds. 2025-04-04In the next step and want to get the mix just right.Head over to the section labeled FILTER2. There’s an input selector that allows you to choose a variety of signals you can pass through the filter. By default, none are selected and Filter 2 isn’t doing anything at all. We’ll select FILT1 which routes the output of the first filter to the input of Filter 2.It’s important to note that it’s a parallel mix, meaning that some signal goes directly from the output of Filter 1 to the master; that dry signal is what we turned down at the end of the last step.Back to Filter 2 – select the Bandpass setting and boost the cutoff and resonance as pictured. We’re getting close.Step 5: Noise to tasteThe sound we’re after has a lot in common with the sound of a palm-muted guitar. It’s a percussive sound so adding some noise can help. So head to the OSC2 section, change the waveform to White, turn the volume almost all the way down, then head back over to the input selector on Filter 1 and activate OSC2. Now we have a bit of noise moving through the filters too.Step 6: Effects for polishMuch like our first patch, we’ll give the sound a touch of reverb and delay, some soft clipping distortion, some compression to emphasize the front edge of the sound, and an aggressive mid-boosting EQ that makes it sit just right. Set your FX engine as pictured, and this is
