Is there a DAW as good as Sonar?

DAW Day - SONAR 8.5 Production

It's highly unlikely any Win 7 updates will have any affect on SPLAT. Win 7 is practically unsupported by Microsoft, with only security updates now being delivered. Cakewalk Inc. was pretty good in writing a "well behaved" DAW - by that I mean it uses the Windows API they way it should be used, and avoids hacks. I've got Pro Audio 9, Sonar XL, Sonar 3, Sonar 5, Sonar 8, Sonar 8.5, Sonar X1, Sonar X2, Sonar X3 & SPLAT installed on my Win 7 32 bit. All work without issue (well, none I've found in any case). [Edit] - It's worth adding, I hardly ever use my Win 7 boot nowadays. It's only there for old projects that have had issues migrating (which I've all fixed now), and for the odd hardware synth editor that is 16 bit. CbB works like a dream for me, with only very minor quirks that don't cause me any issues. Edited February 25, 2019 by msmcleod

Este tipo de software se llama DAW, que significa Digital Audio Workstation. BandLab Technologies: Cakewalk Sonar DAW

Sonar (née Cakewalk) is Cakewalk Inc.’s flagship productand has been a top contender in the PC digital audio workstation(DAW) arena for over twenty years now. A track-basedsequencer/recorder, this DAW equally adept with MIDI and audio andcan seamlessly employ Steinberg’s ASIO or VST technologies, including the myriad of VSTi’s–virtual instruments such as drums, bass, and strings–that are triggered via MIDI.The competitor Sonar most resembles is Steinberg’s Cubase(Digidesign’s Pro Tools is similar but tied to specific hardware). When it comes to comparing their ease of use, I always feel likeI’m in a tug of war. Cubase’s icons are more intuitive, but Sonarmakes it easier to select ranges. Cubase’s midi editors aresuperior, but Sonar’s main page mixing is better and Sonar alsomakes it easier to create and apply track templates (EQ, FX). Sonaralso feels faster, as there’s no copy protection dongle beingconstantly checked to slow things down. Then again, I’m sure Sonarhas a bigger piracy problem. Like Cubase, Sonar offers a menueditor so you can pare the interface down to just those featuresyou use.Sonar, Cubase, and ProTools are equals when it comes to the basics that you need tocreate great recordings. Sonar’s plugins and virtual instrumentsare top-notch; the recording and timing solid as a rock; theprogram is suitable for midi sequencing, track-based recording, orloop manipulation. If you’re more interested in step-sequencing ordance music, FL Studioor AbletonLive may be more up your alley.Outside of more versatile midi editors, my only real Sonar wishis for a bit of a look-and-feel update. Areas of the program, primarily the dialogs, look. Kick (St.1) , it is fine and has it's own track but if I solo the snare which is on st.2 in Kontakt I get the whole kit playing. I've tried different tracks and they are all getting the full kit signals. It seems only the Kick (St.1) is getting it's own channel and I can't figure out what setting is wrong. I notice in Kontakt's output section at the top it says the output is 'St.1 + groups'. Is it something to do with this? Thank you very much for your help in this. I believe you are going to be the key to a solution to this as you have been through this frustration yourself. I really wish NI would help more in these matters but alas they don't! Is as simple as saving my Sonar project as a midi file. This gives you the tempo map, the arrangements and most of the hard work that was done. Then I export the audio as stems. Both dry and wet. I take screenshots of all my instruments and effects. I spent all last year after I realized that Sonar might fade from my life backing up all my projects. I hope Sonar doesn’t fade but if it does Im in good shape now. I have invested wisely in my music future. Now if I had only bought some bit coins last year! Just to mention some: clips boundaries / names / looping / fades (for audio) take lanes automations routing (buses and everything related) instruments and effects settings Yes, you can save separate clips manually and make screenshots of VSTs. But restoring settings from screenshots can be long and error prone. And you still have to record on which track/bus it was, in terms which track/bus was sending there and with which level. And all that can be affected by automations. Sure, since your DAW project is created "manually" it is possible write down all settings and then manually restore them. But lets face it, for any serious project that is ridiculously ineffective process. PS CWP2Song can be useful even in case you use manual conversion to unrelated DAW: it has an option to save tempo map and separate MIDI clips (structured as in the original project) as well as effects and instruments presets. If preset loading is working fine (some VSTs or VST+DAW combinations are a kind of "buggy" and can't restored such presets correctly), that is way faster then restoring settings from screenshot.
 Guest Share 3 hours ago, azslow3 said: Sure, since your DAW project is created "manually" it is possible write down all settings and then manually restore them. It's only there for old projects that have had issues migrating (which I've all fixed now), and for the odd hardware synth editor that is 16 bit. CbB works like a dream for me, with only very minor quirks that don't cause me any issues. Edited February 25, 2019 by msmcleod

Areas of the program, primarily the dialogs, look
