With JES Deinterlacer for Mac, you can convert these files to remove these flaws, as well as perform other changes.JES Deinterlacer for Mac comes free of charge and installs easily. Along with the main program, there are several Readme files that contain information on how to use the program. These instructions and explanations would be welcome for even the average person, since the program itself is not easy to use. The interface lacks graphics and appears dated. Technical support also does not appear to be one of the program's features. The basic main menu contains options for selecting files and the particulars of the conversion sought. These include frame rate, output format, speed, and aspect ratio, among others. You may also adjust visual aspects like brightness and color level. After selecting a video, the program recognizes and loads it quickly for preferences. In terms of functioning, the video loads and converts as quickly as would be expected and includes all of the changes selected prior to conversion. Use iMovie 9 to import and transcode the AVCHD video to Quicktime AIC video files. Keep in mind that 24p on the Canon and some other cameras is actually stuffed into the 60i interlaced video stream. So you can import into iMovie even though iMovie does not know what to do with the 24p frames. (Note – I only have Final Cut Pro 5 which does not support AVCHD. The newer versions, 6 and 7, do support AVCHD directly, although as best I can tell, they do not support the 24p stuffed into 60i video streams directly. So you still have to do the next step.) 2. Use the free JES Deinterlacer’s inverse telecine feature to remove the 2:3:3:2 pulldown from the previously converted AIC file. Just look in your Movies Events folder and let JES Deinterlacer process the imported movie clips. Let JES transcode the input back out to AIC files. 3. At this point, you now have 24p AIC files. You’ll need to run Final Cut Pro to do a good job of editing 24p because Final Cut Express doesn’t do 24 fps timelines. In FCP, set your timeline compression sequene to use the AIC compressor – that way you don’t have to render the AIC files to some other format. Drag your inverse telecined 24p files into Final Cut and have fun editing. Timewise, this process is actually pretty fast. AIC files do “explode” to about 3 to 5 times larger though, than their original AVCHD format. Hi, I hope this is the right place for this question ... A client for whom I produced some PAL dvds (using FCE and iDVD) wants to be able to sell them in the US; ie they need to be converted to NTSC. He's found an item in the export pane in iMovie where you can change the output settings to NTSC (there's the same option in FCE HD). so he says that all we need to do is re-export the movie and then create an NTSC dvd in iDVD. My gut feeling is that it isn't as simple as that, but I want to check if I'm right, and more specifically _why! So that I can explain to him why he's better off taking the masters to be converted at a proper facility (expensive!). What I think is that to do this conversion I would actually first have to convert the source to ntsc and then remake the movies. I've found a plug in for FCP from Natress that does the conversion, though I don't know if it'll work in FCE. Then I'll need to convert the menu graphics to allow for the different pixel size and put everything together in iDVD again. And we haven't even gotten to how to set the Region switch yet! Videostandards: NTSC, PAL, (Secam, Pal+, ...) the 'software' conversion, the QT engine offers is - imho! - lil' accetable, even for consumers as me ... ('just' a private wedding video) there's a free tool, JES Deinterlacer, which once did a much better job for me, converting NTSC into PAL.. but again: it looked... 'blown up', colors were 'wrong' ... a professional converter hardware (40k$) is probably doing a much better job 😉 conversion is no trivia.
