Say goodbye to the limitations of SSRS and embark on a journey to discover cutting-edge SSRS alternatives tailored to your specific requirements. What Is SSRS Reporting?SSRS, or SQL Server Reporting Services, is a Microsoft-based reporting platform that allows users to create, manage, and deliver interactive and paginated reports. It is a part of the Microsoft SQL Server suite of tools and is widely used for designing and deploying reports in various formats, such as PDF, Excel, and HTML. SSRS report designer provides a robust set of features, including data visualization, data-driven subscriptions, parameterized reports, and report caching. It integrates seamlessly with other Microsoft products like Visual Studio and SharePoint, making it a popular choice for organizations that heavily rely on Microsoft technologies. With SSRS report designer, users can connect to multiple data sources, define complex queries, and design visually appealing reports with tables, charts, and graphs. These reports can be scheduled for automatic generation and distribution, allowing stakeholders to access critical business insights in a timely manner.Challenges To SSRS Reporting While SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) is a powerful reporting tool, it is not without its challenges. When working with databases, data conversion is an important aspect. It is an efficient way to manage and organize data into different data types so that they can be synchronized on multiple platforms. This will allow users to access, view, or modify data when required. In the article, you will learn how to use the CONVERT() function in SQL Server with syntax and examples, as well as discuss the alternatives that exist to that function.Contents What is a CONVERT function in SQL Server?SQL CONVERT function: SyntaxImplicit and explicit data type conversionSQL CONVERT function exampleExample #1: Convert date and time data typesExample #2: Convert numeric data typesExample #3: Convert money data typesUse the CONVERT function in the WHERE clauseAlternatives to the CONVERT functionCAST functionFORMAT functionPARSE functionSQL CONVERT explicitly converts an expression of one data type to another with formatting. The function returns the converted value, if the conversion succeeds, or returns an error if it fails.Depending on the SQL Server version you use, the CONVERT function works differently. In earlier SQL Server versions such as 2005, 2008, and 2012, the CONVERT function returned a data type specified in the expression and returned NULL when a given data type argument was null. However, in late SQL Server versions such as 2016, the function returns NULL if the third parameter is null.To move on, we’ll see how to use the SQL CONVERT function and discuss syntax, examples, and alternatives to the function.SQL CONVERT function: SyntaxNow, let’s start with the syntax of the CONVERT function and have a detailed look at each argument. The syntax of the function is as follows:CONVERT ( data_type [ ( length ) ] , expression [ , style ] )The table describes the arguments used in the CONVERT function.ArgumentDescriptiondata_typeA data type you want to get in the result.length (optional parameter)An integer that specifies the length of the destination data type.expressionA valid value to be converted.styleAn integer expression that instructs how the function will convert the expression. The specified data type defines the range of values for the style argument. For more information about style values, see the Microsoft documentation.Implicit and explicit data type conversionData types can be converted either implicitly or explicitly. Implicit conversion occurs when data is converted from one data type to another automatically. In this case, you do not need to explicitly specify the CONVERT keyword in the query. Let’s compare the results of these two SQL queries.-- the first querySELECT p.ProductId ,p.ProductName ,p.PriceFROM Production.Product pWHERE p.Price > 1000ORDER BY p.Price ASC;-- the second querySELECT p.ProductId ,p.ProductName ,p.PriceFROM Production.Product pWHERE p.Price > '1000'ORDER BY p.Price ASC;As you can see, both queries have the same output. It means that SQL Server has automatically converted ‘1000’ as text from theSQL - Alternate Key - SQL Keys - W3schools

Good day everyone! I've been trying to connect my tabular model on Visual Studio (SSAS) to a warehouse in Fabric. The "Microsoft SQL server connector" did not work so I also tried using ODBC alternatives. Just wanted to know if any of you have already tried this and if you could share tips on the type of connector and what did you put in the form (screenshots are appreciated). The connectivity concept here is that it only supports MFA, the port (if used, I didn't) is 1433, and it should be working fine with the "SQL Server connector" using the Fabric Datawarehouse's "SQL connection string". Finally, the connectivity, in general, It's not as straightforward as it seems; in terms of DBMS, I found it easy to connect to Fabric using Azure Data Studio but not using SQL Server MS. This is not rocket science hehe... Here below is some of the official info I started working with and then I just scrapped blogs, google, YT, etc etc. But no direct solutions are available as far as I could read.Comments
